Jonathan Monaghan at Bitforms Gallery
Luxury, power, and technology provocatively merge in Jonathan Monaghan’s mesmerizing digital images and new animation ‘Den of Wolves’ at Bitforms Gallery. Traditional symbols of monarchal authority – an ermine robe, a scepter – show up in the aisles of an otherwise empty big box outlet or a pristine, unpopulated Apple store, conflating old and new symbols of cultural clout. Still images titled ‘Sentry’ or ‘Soft Power’ picture the places and beings – composed of luxurious upholstery and architectural details - populating Monaghan’s eerie, too-perfect dystopia. (On view on the Lower East Side through June 12th. Masks and social distancing are required). Jonathan Monaghan, Soft Power II, dye-sublimation on aluminum, painted maple frame, 27 x 22.5 inches, 2020.

Searching For The Light has a review up of Siebren Versteeg’s Reflection Eternal at Bitforms Gallery.
“It is so aesthetically pleasing that I find it harder to believe the production of the paintings are completely random, but then again who knows if it ever was? What I do know is the wonder of Siebren’s work hasn’t grown old, and the results seem to get more and more appealing. Which ups the ante for process-based painting, as well as what it means to make art. As with much of Siebren’s work, it raises the question does your computer dream of electric sheep?”

From “The Tree of Life” at Bitforms Gallery, curated by Claudia Hart Auriea Harvey & Michaël Samyn The Endless Forest, 2006/2020-ongoing Online multiplayer game
The Endless Forest is a multiplayer online game. There are no goals to achieve or rules to follow. Run through the forest and see what happens. You are a deer. So are the other players. You meet each other in a magical forest on the internet. The setting is idyllic, the atmosphere peaceful. You communicate with one another through sounds and body language. The Endless Forest requires Windows and a fast 3D videocard. To download this game, please visit http://tale-of-tales.com/TheEndlessForest/.

Caramel macchiato
caramel macchiato: art or science museums?
Both. I'm a firm believer in the close interwovenness (yikes is this a real word?) of art and science. So exhibitions that showcase the connection between the two - like the interactive light shows by teamLab or Refik Anadol, and Daniel Rozin's mechanical mirrors at Bitforms Gallery - are my favorites.
Though, I do wish we had more exhibitions for other sciences' arts too, not just AI. For example, exhibitions for agar plates arts would be super cool. I also would love to see more interactive pieces as well, especially for science museums/ exhibitions.
Thank you so much for the ask 💕

Sara Ludy with Bitforms at Future Fair
Sara Ludy’s artwork connects to both virtual and physical worlds manifesting as actual objects inspired by a VR dream house; here, in pieces from 2018, the artist combined glass and copper to create sculptural environments for imagined birds. Ludy’s ability to create compelling work in digital and physical media makes her an ideal artist for her gallery, Bitforms, to showcase in the inaugural Future Fair, currently operating on-line due to the pandemic. Check out her latest images, attractive abstractions which appear simultaneously organic and highly manipulated, intimate yet without reference to scale. (On view in the Future Fair through June 6th). Sara Ludy, Nest 1 and Nest 2, both Waken Glass; copper mesh and glass, 4 x 8 x 7 inches & 2.5 x 5 x 4.75 inches, both 2018.
